"The Mask of Darkness"

One evening, Antara went to visit an abandoned house on the outskirts of the town with her old friend. The house had been empty for nearly two decades. Locals spoke of it as a cursed place—no one dared to stay there overnight. Strange noises were often heard, and even during the day, the windows would sometimes open by themselves.

At first, Antara felt a bit nervous, but her friend Tanya reassured her. "It's just an old house, nothing more." But deep down, Antara couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. They entered through the main door, and as they did, a cold breeze swept over them, almost as if the house itself was welcoming them with an eerie silence.

Inside, the house was dark, dusty, and filled with broken furniture. In one corner, there was an old piano, half-destroyed. "See, it's just empty, there's nothing to be afraid of," Tanya said. But as she spoke, Antara couldn’t help but feel as though someone was watching her from behind.

When Antara turned around, she noticed an old picture hanging on the wall. It was a portrait of a woman, and her eyes were disturbingly large, her face empty and cold. "Why is this picture here?" Antara asked, her heart sinking. The woman’s eyes seemed to follow her wherever she moved.

"This must be the owner of the house," Tanya said, trying to brush it off. "Let’s keep going."

They ventured deeper into the house. Suddenly, a loud crash echoed from somewhere inside. Tanya screamed, "What was that?"

Out of nowhere, a cold breeze swept through the room, and the windows began to open one by one. The shadows outside grew darker, and it felt like the house was coming to life, watching them, waiting for something.

They stood frozen when suddenly, their phones buzzed with a message from an unknown number. "You’ve come. Now, you must see me."

Tanya was terrified. "Who was that? Was there someone here?"

Antara looked at her phone and scrolled through the messages. The woman’s photo appeared again, but this time her eyes were even bigger, and her mouth stretched into a monstrous grin.

Just then, a deep voice whispered from the corner of the room, "You came to my house, but now there’s no way out."

They tried to run, but the door slammed shut, trapping them inside. In an instant, a ghostly figure appeared in the doorway, its face ghastly and horrifying, slowly advancing toward them.

Tanya and Antara were paralyzed with fear, unable to move or speak. Within the hour, the police arrived to investigate. But there was no sign of Antara or Tanya. The house remained silent, save for the faint, unnerving laughter echoing from its walls.

Now, the villagers whisper that the house still calls out to those who forget the past, warning them—"Never forget the ones you try to leave behind."
